Why blog?

I was driving from the Upper Eastside to the Westside this afternoon and decided to cross town on 67th. It's all pretty calm - NYC Public schools are on winter break - until we (often with son in tow) cross 1st Avenue. Yikes! What a death trap for your car. Immediately, I thought I should be able to tell everyone about this - BEWARE Bad Road. It was like Bumper Cars at the amusement park except no one was bumping you. Jigging on the very uneven road and swerving from side to side to avoid the pits.
So taking things a step further than the public service announcement, I thought I would write about life as a female driver in NYC. I drive a lot - no statistics - I have a young son at school 3.5 miles away from home who needs to be ferried around the city often, I also work miles away from home and I've found it is simply far more convenient for me to take the car than the MTA. My husband moans that it's expensive so I avoid paying for parking as often as possible. Once our destination is familiar I usually learn what the street signs are so I know where I can park and when I can park without restrictions.
I am not a car enthusiast, nor do I enjoy driving which I think add to my unique perspective.  So that's the background. Will have more tomorrow.
